hold waterは理屈の話 … 水をためても漏れない桶のように、穴のない理屈を指します。
「水を持つ」ではありません。keep abreast ofとkeep pace with…abreastは横に並ぶで、情報や流行に
遅れないこと。paceは速さを合わせるで、進み具合に付いていくこと。keep one's fingers crossed… 中指を人差し指に重ねる仕草から来た、
幸運を祈る決まり文句です。
