分かれ目は 3 つあります。
out ofは「範囲の外」 …out of reach（届く範囲の外）、out of sight（視界の外）、out of the ordinary（普通の外＝並外れた）。何の外かを押さえると意味が出ます。on the verge ofとbe about to（06 のノート）… どちらも直前ですが、on the verge ofは崖の縁という比喩で、後ろに名詞や-ingが来ます。lose touch withとout of touch with（05 のノート）… 前者は途絶える動き、
後者は途絶えている状態。動詞と形容詞の違いです。
